Well, not write-a-decent-title smart. I'm still on my own there.

I arrived home from London two days late thanks to the volcano in Iceland. Just in time to panic about closing on the house this coming Wednesday. Not a lot of time to tie up loose ends what with a long weekend thrown in the mix. Tomorrow's my first day back at work after three weeks gone and the office looks like a tornado - or perhaps a crazed, sleep deprived woman looking for a passport that was already in her purse - hit it. So is my sitting down in the middle of it all to write a blog entry not compelling evidence of my devotion to the written word?

No, it is not. It's compelling evidence that the cat in my lap is just to damn cute to disturb. She's right, though. I need to not move faster than my brain can think. I need to sit. I need to slow. I need to not do. At least for as long as it takes to write a blog entry. Maybe even for as much time as it takes to write a blog entry and have a sip of this coffee I poured myself before it gets cold.

Only it's already cold. I thought I'd just poured it. Further proof that I'm out of step with the dance of life. Further proof that the cat is smarter than I am.

The most compelling proof is in my face every morning when I wake up, though. Before the brain has a chance to warm up and wind itself around every little anxiety and deadline piercing into my consciousness she reminds me, with a stretch and a purr and an affectionate sniff of my nose, that right now we're comfy and that is what requires my immediate attention. Nothing else. And she's right. Because she's smarter than I am.

Too bad the dog's in charge. Well, at least his bathtub sized bladder is, as he's been reminding me for the majority of the time I've been writing this. Guess I am getting up after all.

Come to think of it, that's usually what eventually gets me out of bed in the mornings too.

Don't rush into that re-entry thing too fast. The cat has the right idea.

The only thing worse than an Icelandic ash cloud is an Icelandic cat cloud. Just be thankful you didn't come across one of them.

Returning to the grind always comes too quickly. What would we do without our furry friends?

Yes we can learn such a lot from our feline friends. Don't you go rushing into anything too soon.

You pass about a two week window and it becomes mightily hard to re-enter the work world. I always wish I had the luxury to get back home and take a few days off at home before i go back to work.

eh. welcome back...you will find your rhythm again...

Yes, allowing a day or two at home before going back to work after a lengthy vacation is healthy. But, animals are the perfect governance on the speed of light.

My dog sits and whines by my bed every morning until I finally get up. Then, while I am fixing my coffee, she jumps up on my bed and goes to sleep!!! Grrrr......

Welcome back!

Your brain only discovers anxieties and deadlines after you wake up? Lucky you! My brain discovers them while I'm asleep and then wakes me up with a panic attack. Obviously what I need is a cat in the bed to calm me down again.

Our dog's bladder gets us up in the morning, and home at night!

Well, if it weren't for the dog, your cat would rule. LOL Welcome back and take a bit of time to reacclimate yourself.

Do you call your dog your best friend? I'd rething that...

Getting home two days late would have thrown me for a loop. Are you going to post photos of your trip?

You need a coffee warmer or a cup the cat can curl around to keep it warm.

Always listen to the cat. They're intelligent, deep thinking creatures who know of what's best.

Oh wait... my cat just ate my flower seeds.

So what you're saying is that you need more cats and perhaps more erupting volcanoes in your life, to help you put the brakes on?

Good thing I just sent you three cats AND a volcano in the mail! Don't open the box if it smells!

Wow, what a spring! New house, trip to London, volcano! I'm sure there's some sort of literary metaphor in there somewhere about adventures and time and new starts.... I'd find an appropriate quote but my cat is curled up next to me and I don't want to disturb him.

I'm sure your cat would disagree that the dog is in charge ;-)

Ha, the dog and his bladder is usually what gets me up, too! My advice? Take it slow. REALLY slow...

nice of you stop by and comment on my blog...i love seeing a new face when i log in! so, how do you think my ad will be received ;) the post was my last effort explaining what a difficult week i'd had. my daughter and her four kids were moving into a larger place and obviously, she and i did most of the work involved. my dear hubby sat on his butt watching the telly, refusing to do anything more than flip through the channels...her children were almost as much help as hubby was ;) this should give you an understanding of where my head was at when i concocted my ad!
so very glad that you arrived home safely and it would appear that you will have a few 'moving' stories of your own to share sometime very soon? good luck with the closing/moving!

Thank goodness for our pets and their bladders!

Glad to hear you got back home in time to close on the house and drink cold coffee!

Welcome back. :) It takes me at least a couple of days to get my groove back after being away for a bit... You'll be fine. Your furry friends will make sure of that.

I'm in a bit of hiatus between books just now -- and I find myself busier than ever. 'tis a puzzlement.

Living a life controlled by someone else's bladder. Sigh. At least the cat has a litter box. One less bladder to worry about.

Welcome home! Wouldn't it be great if we could take all our cues from our felines? Maybe I would slow down a little. Stretch a little more. Nap in the sun. In the mean, I'm glad you took the time to write a bog entry. Cold cup of coffee or no.

I like the way you phrased that about the getting up part -- I am usually all chilled and then it gradually hits me what is in store for the day and that sense of dread quickly takes over.

Damn bladder!

Since I never get to leave my job (as a stay-at-home mom) I can never face the "joy" of returning to it.

My advice is slow and steady.

I stopped reading at "arrived back home from London."

I'll be back when I recover from the envy.

Just telling it like it is said...

Well I totally understand that...I mean why rush to get out of bed...It is usually noon before I get up...for breakfast...then I lay back down until I have watched alt least one FBI File story..but I agree nature calls me a couple of times before I really get up good think the toilet is close!!

I always felt that cats knew they were smarter than us.

But they still pee in a box.

That's just to make us feel better about ourselves.

Megan said...

Yeah, still envious.

Glad you made it back after the volcano delays--that was definitely another layer of unneeded stress.

London? Really? Thats so cool!!

The fear of my dogs pissing everywhere gets me up in the morning too.

Sarah said...

Honest to blog, I know have to pee and want coffee.

I wonder what that must've been like, being bound to one place because of the volcano. I was in Argentina when it all went down (or up shall I say?) and was praying for everyone. That must be a crazy situation.

Welcome back...the cat's right...take it slowly...Perhaps when you've recuperated, you'll write a bit about your adventures in London?

Glad you made it back safe....If I were you I would have pulled out my hair by now. Best of luck getting back into the swing of things.

Glad to read that you arrived safe at home. I can find me quite easily in your story about the hidden passport. That's definitely me,too. Sometimes I really envy these critters for being smarter and even more human than us ;). Have a wonderful week.
